Hepatobiliary sub-specialty

Mr Clarnette's sub-specialty interest is paediatric hepatobiliary surgery — surgery of the liver, gallbladder and biliary tract in children. This is a small and highly specialised area of paediatric surgery, and Mr Clarnette performs the majority of paediatric hepatobiliary procedures in Melbourne and Victoria.

Conditions managed in this area include congenital and acquired disorders of the liver and biliary tract. A more detailed list will be published here once finalised with Mr Clarnette.

General paediatric surgery

Common procedures performed in the general paediatric surgical practice include:

  • Orchidopexy (correction of undescended testis)
  • Inguinal hernia repair
  • Umbilical hernia repair
  • Epigastric hernia repair
  • Hydrocele repair

Placeholder — this list is illustrative and not exhaustive. The full list of conditions and procedures will be confirmed with Mr Clarnette before publication.

Anaesthesia for your child

Children's surgery is carried out under general anaesthesia. For what to expect on the day and how to talk to your child about it, see anaesthesia for children's surgery, written by paediatric anaesthetist Chantal McNally.
